Close Combat Award Clasp


You may wonder as I did, on finding this clasp amongst the contents of my late mother's desk, what she was doing with a gold Nazi-era Close Combat Award clasp! They were awarded to members of the infantry, Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, ground Luftwaffe units and paratroopers, for participation in 50 hand-to-hand fighting actions at close quarters. 631 of them were awarded.
This is going to be a mystery I am unlikely to resolve...the manufacturer's initials on the reverse are F&BL - Funke & Brüninghaus Lüdenscheid
