Haviland Limoges Porcelain plate

So what do you know about Mr Haviland, the American businessman from New York who set up a porcelain factory in Limoges in 1842, and supplied the Lincoln White House with porcelain? I was serving Gravadlax on Swedish crispbread to an impromptu collection of dog-walking friends, in our garden, and grabbed the first plate I could find, for the food. A very elderly cousin had given me this, out of her long-dead mother's porcelain collection, some years ago, and it had sat in a cupboard unused until this afternoon. I hadn't paid any attention to its origin until now - no doubt she will tell me that washing up expands my knowledge base!
