Edible Morel? Sliced longitudinally

Edible Morel? Sliced longitudinally
Edible morels? Here are some views of it in case someone can positively identify it as the edible variety! My slight anxiety is triggered by a local family mistakenly eating what they thought were chanterelles, winding up poisoning themselves so badly that two or more of them are on a kidney transplant list, sadly.
The stem/base is attached at the base, rather than rising to join at the top which seems to be a feature of the false morels. Despite having had the great P.D. Orton as my biology tutor, I am embarrassed to admit I learnt little about what is edible and what is poisonous, and he himself absolutely refused to eat any fungi at all!
