Christina Lawrie - Concert Pianist

Lunchtime concert in Inverness today -took a friend along to listen to Christina Lawrie playing Chopin's Ballade No 4 in F Minor, Carl Vine's Five Bagatelles, and Schubert's fiendishly difficult Fantasy in C Major for solo piano (The "Wanderer". He had wanted in writing it, to combine an entire orchestra in two hands. He broke down whilst playing the final fugue in this piece, leaping up from his piano stool crying "Let the devil play the stuff". Christina played all these pieces faultlessly, from memory, and with great expression. Carl Vine is an Australian composer I have never heard before - he is very popular now amongst the music colleges, and his work is being heard more often now as a result, apparently. I wish Christina was playing up here more often...London is a long way to go, for us, but if you live down that way, and see her on the schedule at the Wigmore - do go along - you would be in for a treat.
