Caterpillar in Rudyard Kipling's garden

- Bateman's, Burwash, East Sussex, TN19 7DS Any clue what it is the caterpillar of? Photographed on Sep30, 2003
Thanks to Simon Humphreys:
"It's a Pale Tussock moth, sometimes known as the "hop dog" moth, because it used to be so abundant in hop fields. It's a relatively common species that also feeds on several scrub and tree species. It has one generation per year, pupates in October, and the adults fly in May-June. Looks fantastic doesn't it."
