Skell Dykes (1 x PiP)

The line of trees going off to the right of the picture follow the course of Skell Dykes. It is believed to date from the Bronze Age/early Iron Age, about 2500-3000 years ago. The dykes, which would have formed a linier boundary, comprise two ditches and two banks. They run south from Raincliffe Wood on the scarp edge for a distance of 660 metres, though they originally continued southward across East Ayton Moor toward the village of East Ayton.
