The lost penny (Yorkshire man in desperate search of Scarborough beach)

The lost penny (Yorkshire man in desperate search of Scarborough beach)
One of the most common stereotypes of a Yorkshire person is being tight with money, there is a British saying that "A Yorkshireman is a Scotsman with all the generosity squeezed out of him", which references how Scots are also stereotyped as being tight but not as tight as Yorkshire people; this stereotype can also be seen in the following Yorkshireman's Motto:

Yorkshire Motto:

Ear all, see all, say nowt;

Eyt all, sup all, pay nowt;

And if ivver tha does owt fer nowt;

Do it fer thissen.

Translation:

'Hear all, see all, say nothing;

Eat all, drink all, pay nothing;

And if ever you do anything for nothing;

Do it for yourself.

Please note that the the above reputation is not in anyway deserved!

Thanks for the visit and the information ref the Detectorists Rosa. I have not seen it but might have to look it up. This gentleman certainly seemed to me to have all the necessary gear, I just hope he was successful in his 'treasure' hunt.

Best regards, Doug

I could not resist taking the shot Bill. The thought about the alleged meanness of Yorkshire folk came into my head as I watching him searching for 'treasure'.

Thanks for your visit Gudrun, much appreciated. Having read about Swabians on the internet I can understand what you mean. I am sure the reputation your people have is as ill deserved as that of the Scots. I have always the to be a generous people.

All the best, Doug
