Red Underwing -Open

What an impressive show we had at our 'moth bridge' on the 28th, we went fairly late to the bridge and at first didn't see much of anything, suddenly on our second pass we looked over to see something the size of a bat flying about (Wingspan 65-75mm). It was obvious right away that it must be a moth not a bat or bird, but then it came closer to us, circling us. I could hardly believe it looked like a large butterfly, with the red and it flying around us, I knew it wasn't but it was just so amazing to see this guy in flight.
When he finally settled on the wall we crept up on him and low and behold, he was putting on a beautiful show. Last time we saw two of these on the bridge it was late, they were already settled and I said how I wished we could have seen the underwing, once we got home and ID'd them. Here it is in its glory :D
