Stoker Hilton, Light Weight Wrestling Champion, Grand Fleet. Stoker Hilton who was I think was of the armoured cruiser 'Good Hope'. The 'Good Hope' was lost in the battle of Coronel on the 1st of November 1914. All 926 crew lost their lives; a stoker Thomas Hilton was amongst them....... If the other men were also crew of the Good Hope, they were also drowned.

HMS Vivid was the Navy barracks at Devonport. It was commissioned in 1890, and operated as a training unit until 1914. The base was renamed HMS Drake in 1934.

The Royal Navy Destroyer HMS Tiger was sunk when it was hit by the much larger cruiser Berwick on the 2nd of April 1908. The Tiger was sliced in two and reputedly sank in three minutes, 35 sailors were drowned. Not all of the crew are shown on this postcard.

HMS Hermes was a high-flyer class cruiser of c1898 which was sunk in World War One; from a pile of old photos picked up in Suffolk recently . The chap in the white on the front row has 'HMS Hermes' on his cap
Memorial to F Hawkins

By Hobbs and Co of Commercial Road Landport. The only letters on the cap band I can read are - CRYAL then U? S? but possibly HMS Euryalus. Their were two Frederick J Hawkins born in Portsmouth c1889 is this chap one of them?
