Thanks! I think the Liver Birds are the work of a German sculptor called Carl Bartels. Sadly he was interred during World War One although a naturalised British citizen, and then deported. He later returned to this country but never received the apology he deserved for this appalling treatment.

I can remember reading about the Hungarian born portrait painter Philip de Laszlo who was also a British citizen he went from painting the Royals to being interned almost overnight. But I think he at least got a form of apology eventually. Have a good weekend Best Wishes James
