adieu Martha, hello beef

Our cow Martha, who has given us 4 calves, had a prolapsed udder after her last calving. It was very painful for her to walk, and she got mastitis. She made it through, but we were advised not to let her calve again. This was a sadder kill than our usual annual kill.
