our first "proper" compost

After doing the workshops at Mt Alexander Fruit Gardens, we decided to make our first "proper" compost. Our HelpXer Paul built a chook proof bay out of old pallets and star pickets, and layered it with scrappy old hay from the hayshed, weedy compost, chicken poo and cow poo. We bought a compost thermometer, and - lo! Within a day it had risen to 50C and by day two it was hovering between 62 and 67C, where it has remained since. Woohoo!
