koala rescue!

I was driving to Foster today on the South Gippsland Highway when I saw a koala lying face down on the other side of the road. I stopped and went over to drag its body off the road and check for a possible joey in its pouch (as one should). To my surprise, it sat up when I touched it, but then just sat there looking dazed. I fetched a rug from the car, scooped it up and drove it to the local vet, who checked him (not her) out and said he had some blood in his lungs, but was otherwise - amazingly - okay. My intervention had undoubtedly saved him! The only thing that stopped me feeling like a true hero was that, as I carried his 14kg into the surgery, my arms wrapped around his chest, his hind legs pushed my tracksuit pants waaaaay down. Heroes don't walk around with their pants halfway down, not matter what teenagers think.
