kookaburra rescue!

WWOOFer Lena and I were coming home from Leongatha when we saw a "dead" bird on the road near Grassy Spur. As we drive over it (not the wheels, just the car) we saw it move a bit. Thinking it was dying in pain, I stopped the car and went back to kill it. When I got to it I saw it was an injured kookaburra, lying on its back. It didn't seem too bad, in fact: it could move its head, legs and body, and there was no blood. I picked it up and it sat passively in my arms, so we drove it to the vet in Foster. They confirmed it seemed quite unharmed, probably just concussed. They'll keep it in for observation then release it again in Grassy Spur. If we HADN'T gone back for it, though, it would almost certainly have been squished by another vehicle. Yay team! (Photo by Lena Grgic)
