lost chickie

This little chick almost, almost hatched. It had pecked a hole in the shell and was cheeping, but when I looked under the hen the next day it was dead. Alas. I peeled off the shell to see if there were any clues as to what happened, but it is perfect, still curled up in its egg shape.
