Humphreys Peak - 3852 m - 1986
Humphreys Peak (Hopi: Aaloosaktukwi, Navajo: Dookʼoʼoosłííd) is the highest peak in the US state of Arizona. It is the highest of a group of dormant volcanic peaks known as the San Francisco Peaks. I'm on the way from Grand Canyon to Flagstaff here, on a small dirt road in the wilderness. It doesn't look like 3852 m, if you compare it with mountains in our Alps. I myself stand here at an elevation of 2323 m.

The prominence is considerably reduced when you're already on top of a plateau! ;) The whole edifice is actually a single stratovolcano, called San Francisco Mountain by geologists. Project the skylined slopes at the left and right upward to get an idea of the original height. The prominent valley trending this way is a central crater that was modified by Pleistocene glaciation.
There's a small ski area (Arizona Ski Bowl) on the other side of the mountain, as seen from here, and at least back in the day a lift ran up to that skylined ridge. They'd run it in the summer for the views.
