Nyksund

Welcome to Nyksund:
Nyksund is a very old and remote fishing village. The port was made by joining two islands, Nyksund and Ungsmaloya in 1877. Most of the population left Nyksund around 1972 and for many years Nyksund was a ghost town. Several projects to save Nyksund were started in the 80s. The most promising was managed by the University of Berlin. But none of the projects survived and only after a number of private people started rebuilding in the 90s, life came back again. Today there are restaurants and lodging facilities, permanent residents again.
