With my eldest son in front of an advertising display in the valley station of the cable car Abergbahn in Maria Alm(Hochkönig, Austria). Mit dem krassen Gegenlicht eigentlich unmögliche Lichtverhältnisse für ein Smartphone. Dank Photoshop ließ sich die Aufnahme halbwegs retten.

Wikipedia page claims that it started in Finland, and supposedly 90% of phones at that time were still Nokia phones. What surprised me is that it has became so widely spread phenomena, and that it is still continuing.
Nevertheless, in Finnish we do have a concept of "Nokia throwing competition", which is either Nokia rubber boot or Nokia mobile phone. I manage to find this old YLE news from 2012 =)
