I've seen this halau perform, and they are amazing. They are also widely known to be friendly, sweet and approachable, despite the fierce theme of some kane hula kahiko.

Kahiko means traditional hula, and wahine means women. These dancers are in beautiful traditional tapa print outfits.
Merrie Monarch Festival Hula Kane Halau

|
The Merrie Monarch is named after our beloved King David Kalakaua, the monarch who restored hula and many other traditions after missionaries tried to suppress them. Each year in Hilo, the Merrie Monarch Festival celebrates hula and Hawaiian culture. I am fortunate to live 15 miles from Hilo on the Big Island.
Men's hula is formally known as Hula Kane
