so, dear friends, contacts and visitors, the overtake of iper by ima comes closer, means: a lot of things will change... a lot of things have changed already, many members have left the platform and searched/found a new home in other communities. others reduced their activities or stopped them completely and some last survivors are still here and try to keep the platform alive by their tireless activities. my biggest respect for the people from ima ! to have cr as a negotiation partner invites more to run away than to continue, i guess... and to spend so much time and energy for this project is no matter of course!
but when the overtake is realized, only the first part of all is done, nobody can say whether iper in its new form will be able to survive. i said it here, i said it there: without free accounts i don't see any chance for iper to attract enough people who are motivated to become paying members. i'm afraid that iper will turn into a community of people with an income of western standard only, others will see the fees and have a look for cheaper options. i have my doubts that this is the way to get enough club members to let the platform survive. how many crowdfundings will be necessary ? how many members will donate next time ? and overnext ? to base all hopes on a closure of flickr and that the members from there will be the rescue for ipernity – how realistic is that ?
i'm on this platform since more than 9 years, i began my artistical carreer here and i'll be sad if ima will close my account, because i won't pay 50 usd/year and don't want to be a member of an elitist community, but obviously this will be the way of the new iper.
if all continues as proclaimed, iper will have one artist less... not everyone will be sad about that, for all others who want see my works also in the future: www.taonarts.com, you're invited to have a look and/or leave a comment ! ;-) if you want to tell me some words more - my mail adress you find on the right side of my frontpage there...
whether i'll be active again on other communities i haven't decided yet, at least i have accounts on flickr, fotocommunity, hq23 and 500px., but at the moment they're sleeping... and maybe there's still a chance that iper will offer a cheaper membership than 50 usd/year... ;-)
we'll see...

Indeed we'll see how things go from here. The price tag is unfortunately rather unavoidable. If that drives people away, it is a pity.

I do hope you will consider staying with us, despite the initial cost. If it makes any difference, the cost in Euros will be equivalent to $50 USD, not cost 50 Euros. There is also a six-month option for whatever the conversion rate of $27.50 USD is. This I can handle, and I hope anyone else who loves ipernity will not consider this too much of a sacrifice to get such a unique photo sharing site off the ground. If all members who love ipernity can do this, then next year we could see a drop in our costs and maybe even can offer free accounts with limited benefits again.
Remember, ipernity is US and WE are ipernity. The members of IMA who have worked so hard to preserve ipernity have sacrificed more than money; they sacrificed time, a much more valuable commodity. They would not do this if they didn't believe ipernity was worth it all. I hope we all remember this when it comes time to open the purse strings to renew our club memberships. ;-)
Gabi Lombardo club has replied to Valfal club.t.a.o.n. has replied to Valfal clubyou know, dear valerie, i really loved this site in the past, then many bad (imho) changes happened, iper switched from a really original site into a mainstream platform (thank you, cr !) and lost its origin personality. it still offers more opportunities than any other site in the net, but to pay 50 usd for that ? my website costs me the half, other communities offer less, but they're for free. i told cr more than just one time that i'm still here because of the people and not because of the iper team which ruined the site piece by piece...
i honestly see no future for iper without free accounts, at the same time i know that generating money has first priority at the moment... another point: a new management will be elected by the club members, but what if thee are persons in this new management i don't agree with ? do i get my money back if i want to close my account because of that reason ?
so, my account will be closed and my gallery, develloped in more than 9 years, will be erased... i don't think that i would begin from zero again if i would like the new iper...
as i said it above: my biggest respect for ima ! their activities deserve highest regard !
many thanks, dear valerie !

.t.a.o.n. has replied to HelenaPF en pause clubI have the same doubts as you have, dear : For many artists who constantly invest in their entire workplace, there are too many costs in this world. And the possibility of getting those costs back by selling the work is always a thing without any guarantee. I also love Ipernity, and people here, but we must individually consider whether our cost of living here is proportional to our other annual or semi-annual expenditures. I preferred the Ipernity as an international egalitarian place. Even using only the Internet every month ( for PC , for phone ) for some people is still not very cheap.
However - i'm happy to see you again here !:-)
.t.a.o.n. has replied to Belleuseduring the last years i had a lot of discussions with artists about the relation between iper and arts... the old team had no feeling for artistical things, maybe the new one will have ? however, with the concept they want to follow there won't be many artists left, i guess...

.t.a.o.n. has replied to Christel Ehretsmann clubindeed, we both are here since 2008 and have seen and done a lot on this platform... and i noticed that many of us "old" members left iper in the last year. i'm still thinking about my being here - do i share an acount with somebody to reduce the costs or am i disgusted too much by this blackmail "pay or be closed" ? and there are additional things to think and discuss...

Although, I do think your opinion and what you wrote here is well said. World wide web is not a free, equal, trustful or open media to many. But it definitely is better than no media. From my part I keep on trying to prove that even a low paid peasantry like me can afford to use services like these for communication and self-expression. It is just a question of priorities.
But I do miss the "old good days" of MyOpera, Multiply, Panoramio etc.
