"Are you free?", Bob Dylan was asked.
"Yes", he answered, "free of you all. Free to believe, free before me." Furthermore, according to his exact words, Dylan was just sure "from the existence of ashtrays, door locks, and window panes." He also said he didn't express anything when he sang. And claimed not to know what "art" is. And he sang folk songs because there were claims everywhere: "Sing folk songs". And the best thing in life is to eat and smoke.
I love Bob Dylan too much. No one should applaud me for that, certainly.
by Herberto HELDER (1930-2015), in "EM MINÚSCULAS", chronicles and reportages the poet wrote to survive, in "Notícia - Semanário Ilustrado", during his short living in Angola (1971-1972), Porto Editora, 2018
