Manaslu Circuit
Not a circuit because the Larkya La pass was impassable!
Manaslu View on the Way to Kathmandu
The flight from Delhi to Kathmandu gives some great views of the HImalaya. In this case (and by some coincidence) a view of the Manaslu group in the centre.
Manaslu View on the Way to Kathmandu II
Hotel Manaslu
Our start and as it turned out end point came with a good cast of characters.
We camped in the grounds rather than staying in the hotel.
Hotel Manaslu Dog
Quite cute and not excessively noisy (perhaps because the other urban dogs were bigger).
Shame About the Weather
Public Transport
By now the sun has come out and as we are walking along a road it turns out we could have caught the bus - or perhaps not?
Scary Bridge
Breakfast at the Mule Hotel
A rather swish new hotel in the background, and under construction in the foreground.
Taken from out campsite on another slightly misty morning.
Colourful Porters
We learned later that our sirdar always recruited a good number of women porters on his treks. Some of whom were strong of character as well as strong of body.
Valley Side Path
Typical path early in the trek high above the Budhi Gandaki. Plenty of room most of the time but a little bit of care needed when meeting oncoming mule traffic. Our group are carefully sticking close to the left hand side.
Terraced Village
In the Himalayan foothills villages will spring up wherever there is land that can be cultivated.
Suspended Traffic
There are quite a number of impressive modern suspension bridges along the route. These save a lot of up and down but some care is needed in timing your crossing if there is a mule train approaching from the opposite direction.
Wide Load
Making Camp
We always camped at a recognised site which made for mostly flat and smooth pitches. It is not too hard to spot which member of the crew is the cook!
A Very Civilised Drink Stop
Tatopani is a very smart and tidy village. It seems almost rude not to stop for a drink of something and perhaps make use of the village 'chaarpi'.
Humbug Rock
Falling Water
The high valley sides give rise to some spectacular waterfalls.
This lady may have had a disagreement with her crew behind?
