Atlas Mountains Morocco 2000
RedDoor
Now deserted animal feeding as our donkeys have just been loaded up ready to go trekking.
HighRise
This style of quite sturdily build multi-floored building is quite typical of this region of the Atlas.
BuildItInRed
The red earth obviously made the best building material and it can be very striking where it contrasts with its surroundings. This village is not as precariously positioned as this view might suggest.
AllModCons
Quite a wealthy Moroccan village built in the local red clay style. All looks very rural but look closely and you can see that there are several satellite dishes.
In Search Of Refreshment
It gets pretty hot trekking in Morocco during July. So when passing through a village it is always worth trying to find the local shop or cafe, where you will invariably get a very friendly welcome.
Extreme Geology Take I
Almost vertical strata and red rock can make for some pretty dramatic looking scenery around Jbel Rat.
EveningVisitor
One thing you can almost always be sure of when camping in Morocco is that you will be the evening entertainment for the locals. This is also entertaining for the visitor, but it can make finding a quiet spot for those essential camping ablutions somewhat difficult.
HeavyGoodsTraffic
Environmentally friendly transport is the norm and it is so nice to get away from mechanised transport for a couple of weeks.
