Those Dreamy Eyes
This is a postcard that's addressed on the other side to Miss Nellie Groves, Greenland, West Virginia. It was postmarked in Maysville, West Virginia, but the date is missing.

Handwritten message: "Hello Nellie, How are you by this time. I am going to school today, when are you coming over. This is from your beau. Henry."

Alan - just saw these. Both postcards remind me of a fairly well-known 70s counter culture book - "You Are All Sanpaku" by George Ohsawa. (I think the "All" referred to Americans - it's been a long time since I read it.).
The main symptom of being sanpaku (spiritually out of whack due to poor diet) was that the irises had a significant strip of white underneath them (first postcard) and the healthy well adjusted person had eyes that showed no white underneath. (Second one.)
They would have been such perfect illustrations for the book!

Hi Deborah, this is quite interesting! I never heard of sanpaku eyes, but I see what you mean after checking Wikipedia and doing some other searching. Some sources equate it to "psychopath eyes" or "crazy eyes."
