On the 5th October 1999, the local train from London Paddington to Bedwyn collided head-on with an express train coming into Paddington. When they hit, their combined speed was about 210 Km per hour (Km/h).
The local train that was very badly destroyed in the accident the one I USUALLY travelled on to reach Maidenhead. By the Grace of God, I took an earlier train on the 5th October 1999. Had I not done so, my name would have been on the monument pictured above.
