She studied singing under her father Antonio Torresella and already in 1870 appeared at the opera house of Triesteas Fenena in Verdi’s ‘’Nabucco’’. Appeared in Italian province,La Scala ,Teatro San Carlo Naples, Buenos Aires, Teatro Regio of Turinin Russia, South America.Austria, Spain, Egypt , Portugal and London. She created in 1896 at the Teatro de la Opera of Buenos Aires the role of Musetta in the première there of Puccini’s ‘’La Bohème’’. Roles included Marguerite de Valois in ‘’Les Huguenots’’ Meyerbeer. Mascagni’s opera ‘’Le Maschere’’. Gilda in ‘’Rigoletto’ She gave untill 1909 occasional guest performances and concerts in Italy and South America.

Studied at the Stern Conservatory in 1899 as a baritone,In 1904 he auditioned for Gustav Mahler, then Director of the Vienna Opera, and was offered a contract Leaving the name "Semfke" and baritone roles behind, Sembach joined the Vienna Opera as a tenor and made his debut as Moser in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg on November 13, 1904.In 1907 he joined the Dresden Opera, making his debut as Don José in Carmen on August 18. In Dresden, S secured a leave from his Dresden post in 1911 to study with legendary tenor Jean de Reszke in Paris, staying with the tenor for a year and a half. He reemerged as a performer in 1913, singing in London, Berlin, Munich, and Paris. He joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera in 1914

She made her early debut, still as a volunteer, at the Dresden Hofoper in 1909 where she sang the Shepherd Boy inTannhäuser. She joined the company of the Dresden Hofoper (later Staatsoper) remaining there until her retirement in 1935.

Debut in the title role of Charles Gounod's opera Faust on 1 February 1899 in Brno.In the same year he was engaged by the National Theatre in Prague. From 1901, he performed abroad. He was a regular member of the National Theatre between 1899–1901 and again in 1903–1907. In 1907 he left for Paris, where he continued to school his voice then in 1908–1918 performed at London's Covent Garden and Berlin's Komische Oper. Following World War I, Mařák became an American citizen and went on to teach in the country between 1934–1937.He especially excelled in Smetana parts such as Jeník in The Bartered Bride, Dalibor, Ladislav Podhajský in The Two Widows, Lucas in The Kiss as well as in traditional world repertory which saw Mařák play Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Massenet's Werther, Cavaradossi in Tosca and Alfred Germont in La Traviata. He often took on the role of Don José in Bizet's Carmen.

There he sang Barak in 1920 in the premiere of 'Frau ohne Schatten' by R. Strauss, in 1930 in the world premiere of the opera 'Christopher Colomb' by Darius Milhaud. 1913 guest performance in Amsterdam .After 1925 he only gave guest performances, so 1930-31 at the State Opera as the German Opera House Berlin. In 1931 he finally took leave of the stage. Roles were the Flying Dutchman, the St. Bris in the 'Huguenots' of Meyerbeer, the Escamillo in 'Carmen', the Amonasro in 'Aida', the Marcello in 'La Bohème', the Scarpia in 'Tosca', the Sharpless in 'Madame Butterfly', the Arkel in 'Pelléas et Mélisande', the Sebastiano in 'Lowland' of d'Albert, the Orest in 'Elektra' by R.Strauss and the Borromeo in 'Palestrina' by H.Pfitzner.

She sang at the Bayreuth Festival in 1902 and 1908, where she sang Erda in Der Ring des Nibelungen. She also sang at the Salzburg Festival, where she often played Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro.

He retired from the stage in 1915.

The following year, she won three first prizes: in Fides of the Prophet for the vocals, Psyche of Ambroise Thomas Eros for the Opéra-Comique, and stage of the recognition of the Prophet for the opera. She signed a commitment with the Opéra-Comique,. Begins on October 31, 1893 in Mignon (it is she who will sing this role on the evening of the May 13, 1894). Second debut in Carmen on February 5, 1894. Either in Paris or in Aix, in Trouville, in Vichy, plays the Portrait de Manon; the Vivandière, Godard; Meal, Paul and Virginia; Charlotte, Werther; Santuzza, of Cavalleria Rusticana; the mother of Sappho. , at the Comédie-Française. Still in the same 1901 he had big success in Modena as Raoul in ‘’Gli Ugonotti’’ and as Arnoldo in Rossini’s ‘’Guglielmo Tell’’, his both star roles. In 1901 he guested at the Royal Opera of Budapest, then at the opera houses of Venice, Genoa and Turin. Other appearances - In 1904 he appeared in Bucharest, in 1905 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in Odessa, together with Mattia Battistini he created sensation at the Opera House of Warsaw in ‘’Guglielmo Tell''. In 1907 he sang at the Teatro Politeama in Buenos Aires, in 1910 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and in 1911 at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli. From 1910 to 1911 he appeared as a heroic tenor at the Paris Grand Opera again as Arnoldo in ‘’Guglielmo Tell’’ of Rossini and as Radames in ‘’Aida’’.
