He was a pupil of the Eichelberg Conservatory in Berlin and completed his training with Paul Bulss and Mathilde Mallinger. In 1906 he made his stage debut at the Theater des Westens in Berlin. 1911 - 1912 he sang at the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth as Amfortas in 'Parsifal'..He sang at Stadttheater Zurich ,Deutsches Opernhaus Berlin,Hofoper Dresden, Hoftheater Dessau., Vienna State Opera, Städtische Oper Berlin and Berlin Volksoper..Guest appearances at Covent Garden Opera, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Budapest.Roles Included Escamillo in 'Carmen', Amonasro in 'Aida', King Philip in 'Don Carlos' by Verdi, Jago in 'Othello', Count Luna in 'Troubadour', the Pizarro in 'Fidelio', in addition Wagner heroes (Flying Dutchman, Wolfram, Telramund, Hans Sachs,
