So true, Judite! And when I was a kid I had a lantern that looked almost exactly like this one. Usually, children walk around with illuminated lanterns on St. Martin's Day (November 11). I don't know if you have that (or a similar tradition) in Portugal?

In Portugal we celebrate November 11th with "magustos" (roasted chestnuts) and jeropiga ( a traditional alcoholic drink of Portuguese origin that is prepared by adding brandy to grape must), Edna

That sounds exciting. I'd like to try it...the roasted chestnuts (we have them here as well) and especially the jeropiga :-) I guess the kids would only get the lanterns and the chestnuts?? ;-))
