
Peniche
Peniche Fortress (1570).
Built in the 16th century to defend Peniche from pirates' raids, it was used in the 20th century as a detention centre of political prisoners, during dictatorship. Now it's a museum about this period of persecution.
Monument to the sea man.
Located near the harbour and the fortress. Peniche was an island in the Middle Ages, but it became silted up in a way that it became definitely a peninsula some centuries ago.
