Portel
Statue of Dom Nuno Álvares Pereira.
He was the commander of the Portuguese Army in the transition between the 1st and the 2nd dinasty (1383-1385), when the rules of succession pointed to the king of Castilla-León as king of Portugal. To preserve the independence, the resistance to occupation was successful in decisive battles and Portugal had its own 2nd dinasty.
