Spitfire airplane (World War II).

Displayed in the Potteries Museum and Gallery of Art of Hanley, at Stoke-on-Trent. These airplanes were widely used by the Royal Air Force during World War II and were designed by Reginald Mitchell (1895-1937), who died of cancer before the war. Having been born in Talke - a northwestern suburb of Stoke-on-Trent - the inclusion of this airplane in the museum was a tribute to a locally famous personality. Since this photo was taken, this Spitfire was taken for a major restoration and now it is displayed in its own new pavilion, next to the museum.
