Being an ARRL award are all the contacts in the USA or can they be anywhere?

No, although there is a USA map in the background, contacts with any place in the world count for the standard VUCC awards. Most of my contacts are with stations in JN, JO and KN (Europe). There is another award in the VUCC familty, called "Fred Fish Memorial Award", which is about collecting only USA locators on 50 MHz.
