An unusual staircase
It´s a challenge equivalent to the cliff
I'll try the ladder and go see the cliff more closely.

It was unusual: a sort of emergency exit in case you get caught by the tide when you’re under the cliffs.

The illuminated rectangles and the contrails provide an interesting counterpart to the unmanufactured surroundings surroundings.

The cliffs between Brighton and Newhaven are generally tall, with some dips as can be seen at Telscombe and Saltdean. There are long stretches of undercliff concrete walkway with low walls on top, which protect the base of the cliffs. This photo shows the end of a walkway with the steps giving access to the beach beyond. At the end of the most easterly section of the walkways the cliffs are particularly high - - www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/35062977/in/album/710357
If you join this walkway at its western end you have a ramp down from the cliff top. It looks quite inviting but when you get to the east end you have a steep climb up huge flights of steps!

Thanks Phil. Yes, I was keen to capture the steps at Friars Bay, but we decided to walk to Rodmell across the Downs, which was much more pleasant.
