It's clever and amusing, but it's also moving. This strange sensation of separation from people whom we never knew, except we did, through their words and art, and what others have written about them. And then there's that mad idea of whom you'd most like to be your guests at a dinner party, and the frightening realisation that you might not admire them as much as you thought you would.
