Not just bears Leopold, one time I was in my kayak near Tofino and a whale was breaching near me. I decided to paddle around a corner to be closer to shore so I wouldn't get swamped or tipped over by the whale waves. As I paddled around the corner into a cove there was a bear on shore waiting to greet me! I decided to paddle backwards and take my chances with the whale which was moving on anyway. 8-))
