WP1974 WPG - BROADWAY WINNIPEG (LK W FROM MAIN ST)

POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Unposted, but the AZO stamp box had known usage through 1904 -1917. Publisher / Photographer: Meyers Photo, Winnipeg Notation: Message on reverse reads; "The Fort Garry Hotel on Broadway. the Entrance to the Union Depot where I work just looks right down this street. The place where I am staying now is about 12 minutes walk down this street." Of particular note in this image are the early version of the Manitoba Club on the left - before its 1909 east wing addition, and the south east corner of the Strathcona Block in the front right.

POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Posted, but postal strike is unclear. Publisher / Photographer: Published for the Canadian Pacific railway News Service. Notation: I have only seen this view before on a real photo postcard. It is looking north across Broadway, in the foreground. On the left is Garry Street - and on the right is Fort Street. Interesting "Hand Colored" note in the bottom right.

WP2083 WPG - BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF WINNIPEG (OLD LAW COURTS FROM BROADWAY)

POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Likely between 1904 and 1912 - because the first two buildings on the left are the second Land Titles Building (far left, opened in 1904) and the first Land Titles Building (built in 1881 and demolished around 1912 to make way for the construction of the Law Courts building). Publisher / Photographer: Lyall Commercial Notation: Five significant Winnipeg buildings are seen in this image. As mentioned above, the first and second Law Courts buildings are on the middle left side. Slightly behind them and to the right is the original University of Manitoba building (in what is now Memorial Park). To the right of that, the large building with the spire is the old Law Courts building. Facing Kennedy Street, it was built in 1882. The addition on its north side was added in 1984. Lastly, just to the right of the addition, and seen hazily in the distance, are the twin spires of Wesley College (opened in 1896), now the University of Winnipeg.
