WP1911 WPG - CITY OF WINNIPEG LETTER CARRIERS 1910

Posted February 18, 1911 from Winnipeg to Makaroff, MB
Publisher / Photographer: Foote Photo (See very bottom of image)
An interesting image with head shots of the Winnipeg Letter Carriers of 1910.
The centre of the card has a picture of the Winnipeg Post Office on Portage Avenue. Above it is a sketch of a letter carrier and his satchel below what appears to be the seal of the Letter Carriers Association - featuring an envelope in-hand and a beaver. Below it is a sketch of a woman placing a letter in a mail box. Portraits of five men encircle the post office picture - all officers of the Letter Carriers Association.
At the top is W.M. Burrows - Dominion President. To the left of Mr. Burrows is F. Rogers - Manitoba President and to the right is J.V. Johnston - Manitoba Vice President. Below them, left to right, are: E. Fuller - Secretary and A. R. McGregor - Treasurer.
It is likely that all these photos were taken in October, 1910 when W. M. Burrows was in town. An excerpt from the September 28, 1910 edition of the Winnipeg Tribune reads: "The Letter Carriers' association will be addressed at its next monthly meeting by the Dominion president, W. M. Burrows, on the Trades Congress and its work. The body is also arranging to hold a social in connection with the affair."
The Letter Carriers portrayed are (left to right) from top of the picture:
Row 1: J. Caldwell, J.E. Hitchen, A. Phemister, J. Beale, R. Richmond, H. Godfree, J. Walsh, E. Taylor, J. R. Atkins, A. Thompson, H.L. Rogers, T. Booth
