Nach etwa zweijähriger Bauzeit wurde das Bauwerk anlässlich der Feierlichkeiten zum 1000. Jahrestag der Landnahme am 4. Oktober 1896 als damals zweite Donaubrücke den Budapestern feierlich übergeben.
