Puerto de Tazacorte ist der Ort, an dem 1492 die spanische Eroberung La Palmas begann. Aufgrund seiner guten klimatischen Lage begannen die Eroberer frühzeitig mit dem Anbau von Zuckerrohr, der der Gemeinde über drei Jahrhunderte eine gewinnbringende Wirtschaft erbrachte.
