Lincoln Cathedral: main portal

Main door at the West front of Lincoln Cathedral. The typical Norman arches are part of the original Cathedral, completed in 1092 and largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1185. The Cathedral was reconstructed in Gothic style incorporating the surviving Norman parts.
Visitors enter through one of the side doors, the main portal is ony used for special occasions.

Das Hauptportal am Westwerk der Kathedrale von Lincoln. Die typisch romanischen Rundbögen sind Teil der ursprünglichen Kathedrale, die 1092 fertiggestellt wurde, aber 1185 bei einem Erdbeben weitgehend zerstört wurde.Beim Wiederaufbau im gotischen Stil wurden die noch intakten romanischen Bauteile erhalten.
Besucher betreten die Kathedrale durch einen der Nebeneingänge, das Hauptportal wird nur zu besonderen Anlässen genutzt.
