Wreck of trawler "Daniel Quare"

Wreck of trawler "Daniel Quare"
Grimsby steam trawler Daniel Quare (GY279) ran aground in thick fog off Langanes peninsula in September 1955. The many parts of the wreck cover quite a wide area, showing how fierce the storms can be. The driftwood in the notes comes all the way from Siberia.

Der englische Dampftrawler Daniel Quare (GY279) lief im September 1955 vor der Halbinsel Langanes im dichten Nebel auf Grund. Die Wrackteile sind recht weit verstreut, ein Zeichen, wie heftig die Stürme dort sein können. Das Treibholz in den PiPs kommt aus Sibirien.

Haben da Landschaftsdekorateure gearbeitet? Der Sturm kann soch die Eisenteile nicht so verfrachten......Jedenfalls gefallen mir die Rostteile ausgezeichnet in der Landschaft. Tolle Bilder!

Herzlichen Dank, Berny! Ich nehme stark an, dass bei Sturm das Wasser so weit hochkommt. Die Halbinsel ist sehr ausgesetzt, da kommt bis Grönland/ Spitzbergen/Sachalin kein Land mehr.

There are many shipwrecks around the British coast, and I have seen at least 3 in southwest Norway. I fins them very interesting both historically and photogenically. The remains will gradually disappear, and and are far less harmful intrusive than plastic waste. Your fist PIP reminds me of ribs.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Shipwrecks are always a joy for photographers.Most in Iceland seem to be of English boats... The "ribs" would have been collected and reused in former times, as would the driftwood, which used to be the only wood for building.

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! In früheren Zeiten wäre das alles weg gewesen, aber heute wohnt dort am AdW praktisch keiner mehr, dsewegen liegt's rum. Das Holz hat man früher zum Bauen benutzt, solche langen Baumstämme sind auf Island nie gewachsen.

In fact you have four winners here.........I really like them all. Thank you so much, Keith! The northern coasts of Iceland are splendidly isolated and mostly deserted. The Langanes peninsula is a great place for nature lovers with lots of sea birds but the "road" gets worse the further you go;-)

Ja, das wurden sie! Die Winterstürme sind dort nicht ohne, da ist kein Land mehr bis Grönland im Norden und Spitzbergen/ Sibirien im Osten. Selbst in der Gegend um Reykjavik schmeißt es bei Sturm manchmal Autos auf der Strasse um.

Thanks a lot, Rosa! There are quite a few English shipwrecks along Iceland's coastline, all from the time before the cod wars when English trawlers fished in Icelandic waters.

Danke vielmals, Uli! Oje, ich glaube, die Isländer brauchen die nicht;-) Dieses Jahr waren welche unterwegs, als Touristen getarnt, die in ländlichen Gebieten Häuser ausgeraubt haben. Die Leute dort mussten bisher nie abschließen...:-(
