Day three of this trek, heading east out of Eureka Valley and into the northern tip of Death Valley.

This dirt road intersection was named after some motorist had his crankshaft go out here decades ago. Naturally, people now bring old crankshafts out here. It's the desert way.

Sand Spring, along the dirt section of road before hitting Ubehebe Crater and pavement. This spot is the oldest recorded reference at Death Valley, by John Fremont in 1844.

Scotty's Castle tourist crapshack. Despite many maps to the contrary, they haven't had gas here for years. Be advised. We had to shunt out two hours round trip to Beatty, NV to gas up before our long detached voyage. My next vehicle will be a hybrid.

The Cottonwood range rises up on the east, seperating us from Death Valley. I think that's Tin Mountain peak dominating the skyline.
