Off to Death Valley again to try and hike Telescope Peak. First a short hike to Mono Pass off SR 120 near Tioga Pass (Mt Dana in the background).

There are a few old miner's cabins along the way.

Not quite a true ghost town, but a ghost mining camp. Very nice to see as many undisturbed buildings as we did.

Took Hwy 395 south and 190 east past the Inyo Mountains to Death Valley.

Arrived at Wildrose camp. We knew the valley floor could be 120 degrees, but thought this spot at 4,000 ft elevation, which we visited in the freezing cold in March, would be pleasant in July. It was very hot!

The camp is deserted. Groups of quail-like desert birds (chukars, I think) kept making appearances.

Also many jackrabbits popping in and out of cooler vegetation.
