After the Death Valley trek, tried to take dirt roads from Hinkley to Randsburg, just for the fun of it. The Buttes near Harper Dry Lake in the background.

Got about 20 miles into it and the roads got too rough, so just pitched camp.

Example of the too rough roads. Not a clearance problem, but miles of these spikey rocks are going to blow a Subaru tire, and I've done it.

Next day back out, exploring around The Buttes.

Also exploring Lockhart ghost town site. No structures left, just acres of debris.

On the horizon are the endless solar arrays around Harper Dry Lake.

I've seen some big can dumps, but this one at Lockhart went on for miles and won the prize.

Just to keep it interesting I took pole line roads from Lockhart west to HWY 395.

Was rewarded with one of the biggest Joshua Trees I've even seen, or parked under.

Detoured to the Fremont ghost town site, and found nothing but a few slabs. Fremont Peak in the background.

Approaching Randsburg, which we have visited before, there are a few other historic mining districts we've blown by several times. Time to slow down and check them out.

I'm pretty sure this Atolia area was barred off in the past. Now it is open and has a tourist sign. OK!
