I am soon to delight my Spanish inlaws to a traditional cottage (not shepherd) pie. Has to be beef as they don't really do lamb here (its milk fed VERY young lamb only, which to my mind has neglible flavour. They don't like our lamb which is too strong for them, much like mutton was to me before I got used to it!). But beef mince will be fine of course!

Good luck Andy, Cottage pie is a great thing if done well...if it's a success you could maybe try a Lancashire Hotpot????

Thanks, Denis. Cottage pie tomorrow. My sister already does a pretty good irish stew, so a Lancashire hotpot won't be far off it except that the lamb just isn't flavourful enough here!
