This is 'Nursery Frieze' by John Egerton Christmas Piper (1903-1992) - An exceptional landscape and architectural artist,set designer,stained glass designer and printmaker. The Tate exhibition was a great excuse for a day out in Liverpool.
John Piper (along with Patrick Reyntiens) also designed the Trinity stained glass in the tower of 'Paddy's Wigwam' (Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral)

Splendid. His work puts me in mind of Patrick Heron's early work. Very different conceptions but resulting in similar atmospheres.
