I want to photograph
2000 machine-turned coat hangers lynched on a scaffold of art philanthropy
A red-faced Member of Parliament drinking Andrew's Liver Salts as a penance
An apology from a man who said he had a plan but couldn't even find his own arse
A free spirit level for everyone who thought levelling up meant them
Thoughts that invade at 3 am
Unattended pile-ups on the neural motorway
Regrets that keep on escaping and asking for asylum
The restoration of youthocracy
That will do for this afternoon.

The priory church was consecrated in 1361. It is in regular use still as a parish church. Pevsner descibed it as "A wonderful church and a highly important church. It is so varied in its skyline and so freely embattled that it looks like a fortified mansion ..."

The Radić Pavilion

The Radić Pavilion was installed at Hauser & Wirth Somerset in March 2015, at the end of Oudolf Field. Designed by Chilean architect Smiljan Radić, this unique structure was first unveiled as the Serpentine Gallery 2014 Pavilion.

"I wanted to make it look like it came from the hands of a giant .. In the tradition of the English garden folly, it should be something that surprises the public and draws their attention, providing a spatial experience that you don't get every day."

Quakers' Walk Lodge, Devizes

In 1840 the New Park estate was bought by E. F. Colston of the powerful Bristol trading family and became known as the New Park or Roundway Park. In the 1850s Colston controversially enclosed land and built the Quakers' Walk gatehouse, complete with attractive iron gates, to delineate his driveway.
in 1916 C. E. H. A. Colston was created the 1st Lord Roundway. After the second world war the 2nd Lord Roundway sold Roundway Park. The house, pleasure gardens, kitchen garden and a paddock were bought by Wiltshire County Council, who used part of the house for Civil Defence purposes, but soon sold it on. The new owners demolished it in 1955 as it was in poor condition and had dry rot. The estate land of almost 1,600 acres was sold to the Bristol Merchant Venturers as the trustees of H. H. Wills charity (the same Wills family who made a fortune from tobacco).

I met an interesting gardener taking a break (the gardener was taking the break - I never rest). We discussed the price of tarmac and the implausible science behind communications technology.

God's Wonderful Railway

The train in the picture has just crossed the River Avon as it heads north-east towards Swindon. This section of the original Paddington to Bristol mainline presented engineering challenges necessitating deep cuttings and high embankments. There are streams and tributaries draining into the Avon and quite long stretches of standing water. The place is blissfully quiet save for birdsong in Spring and passing trains, but here and there along the line mysterious packs of materials are being put in place for the electrification project. In 1840 the locals would have lamented the changing scenery as the railway came through. At least they were spared ugly gantries decorating the skyline.
