Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G
Folder: Lenses
A surprisingly capable lens within certain limitations, and it is certainly cheap enough to buy secondhand. It's light in weight too, for a day trip. With bright light, using a small aperture, and at modest telephoto, it seems to work quite well.

Stourhead, Wiltshire
I used a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G lens on a Nikon D90. It was set at 70mm and the camera at f/8. This is a surprisingly capable lens within certain limitations, and it is certainly cheap enough to buy secondhand. It's light in weight too, for a day trip. With bright light, using a small aperture, and at modest telephoto, it seems to work quite well.

Treetop Against Sunset
Photographed with a Nikon D90 and an AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G lens. I've owned two of these lenses and sold them because their performance beyond 200mm was not that good. Yet for the price you pay (very small) and their portability (very lightweight) they are worth having if you can deploy them between 70 and 200mm only. They are not the sturdiest of lenses but they're better than nothing.

Dancing in the Dark
Originally only a fairly low-resolution colour photograph, this has now become a tiny file through an extensive crop and conversion to black-and-white. Vestigial, it represents only what might have been. But it nevertheless looks improved if you press 'z' on your keyboard (and 'esc' when you want to go back).

Meanwhile, Near To A Place Where Ice Cream is Sold
The Biss Meadows Renovation Opening Event of 2013. They may have re-renovated since; it's a large area and reliant on volunteers to keep it presentable.
Leaving the civic hoo-hah and speeches, I chanced upon this charming threesome who agreed to my taking their photograph.
I used a Nikon D50 at 400 ISO and 1/250th, Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6 AF G at 70mm and f/4 (i. e. wide open). I've bought this lens at least twice because for the money it's really quite good (but best under 200mm). It's also very light in weight. The later VR version is better, but not by as much as you might expect given its higher cost (and it weighs a lot more).
