Joan and the Staple Gun

Joan and the Staple Gun
A staple gun on an old edition of the ‘Radio Times’ from 1966. The photograph is of Joan Bakewell, who was born Joan Dawson Rowlands in Stockport and was head girl at Stockport High School for Girls. She went to Newnham College, Cambridge. She did not like being described by the late Frank Muir as ‘ the thinking man's crumpet’. She is now 82 years of age.

Photographed with an Auto Chinon f/1.7 55mm on a Canon EOS 40D.

Thanks for your comment. I agree that it was an ill-considered and patronising compliment which did not acknowledge Joan Bakewell as an equal in the world of high-brow television of that time, for you would not speak that way of an equal.
