The forgotten subway

The forgotten subway
Everyone knows about the subway that ran under the River Ely, but not so many know about the subway that ran under the approach sidings to the coal tips at Penarth Docks. Here is a view of the southern end which was down a flight of steps. It was almost 50yds long and was lined with white glazed tiles. Many older residents who remember both subways in use, often confuse the two, in fact that only this subway was tiled. The longer Ely subway was just bare cast iron. You can zoom in on my map (sattelite view) to see it's exact location.
